Online Writer Class Testimonials!
 Happy Hooker's

Terry, although I didn't get as involved in this class in the last few
lessons as I would have liked, I've learned a lot. My critique group
commented on how they liked my hooks! I've taken a fair number of
online classes, and yours are the best by far. The time and effort you
put forth is amazing. You respond to each and every post, and your
feedback is invaluable. I would highly recommend your 3D characterization class to everyone. ~~Jennie Moening

I want to tell you what a wonderful class this has been.
I do plan on taking your 3-D character class in April. ~~Albert Diana

I guess it's true when they say all good things come to an end. :(
This is my first paid online class, and Terry, I've had a great time
and learned a lot! You've been great with your attention to all your
students and you've given great examples I can go back and look through
when I get stumped :) I would definately recommend and take any of your
classes again, and most likely will sign up for your April class.~~Marty Rayne, Tempt yourself with erotic adventures, www.martyrayne.com

I can tell already that it's such a valuable course-- as I'm revising my own work or critiquing others', I'm looking at the chapter endings especially to check that we're not giving the reader a chance to put the book down.

Thanks so much for all your work!~~Lynne Kelly Hoenig

Thanks so much for this workshop.  I have learned so much these past
few weeks.  I have seen a difference in my writing already and have
been able to go back over past chapters and done revisions to make
better hooks and cliffhangers.  I am so glad I took this course.  I am
only sorry that I wasn't able to keep up the last week in exercise due
to work constraints.  Thank you so much for your time.  I have enjoyed
it immensely. ~~Colleen McCready

Terry, what a fantastic class, even though the last couple of weeks have been crazy at my day job and I've not had time to finish up doing exercises, I've saved all the material, and downloaded everything from the files, and I have so enjoyed your class.  I'm going to try and do my query/synopsis this weekend but if I miss the chance maybe I'll be lucky enough to get into a future class.  I'm going to work right through to finish my current WIP and then in the revision process I'm going to pull out all the material from your class and apply the lessons to all my chapters.  Thank you, Jude Atkins, www.judeatkins.com

Thanks Terry for a super class. I learned a lot and had fun doing it!

On behalf of STAR, please accept our thanks for offering such a wonderful workshop. Your great spirit, specific pointers, and enthusiasm have clearly helped many of us work through our muddles. And ladies, in case you didn't realize, Terry graciously threw in 2 extra lessons. With her offer to continue corresponding, I'd say that rates as above and beyond --Texas-size, right?
: )

Terry, you inspired me to read the first and last page of every chapter in my novel (and the scene breaks). Sometimes I felt I could almost hear you, encouraging me to look for the tension. Talk about slashing. This one technique has definitely improved the overall pacing of my novel.  --Jill Schultz

Since I joined RWA in January, I've taken five online workshops. Some were good, others were mediocre at best. But none of the instructors gave as much of their time or shared their expertise so generously as Terry has done these past few weeks. Check out the number of posts--481 to date. The amazing part, 183 of those were feedback from Terry. The lessons were also creative, interactive, and practical.  --Ann Whitaker

I agree with what Ann said in the workshop. You are a wonderful, generous friend and a fantastic person who has taught me tons about hooks, cliffhangers and many other things.  Too bad we are not close enough to do lunch. :-)  I think your first workshop was a big hit!  You go girl!  --Vonda Ogle, My Fierce Highlander

Terry’s workshop Happy Hookers was pure inspiration, 101 proof!  Terry has a deep understanding of how to hook readers and keep them reading that goes way beyond the classic cliffhanger.  She teaches you how to scan the books of published authors as well as your own work with a critical eye, looking for examples of hooks in the obvious and not-so-obvious places.  Not only good examples but those that ‘need improvement’ are examined.  Why did they work, or why not?  This detailed critique helped me recognize that my story could go from good to great!  My productivity has soared because I can now pepper all the scenes with great hooks.  Most writers have great stories and the talent to tell them, so why do so few of them get the chance to share their work in published form?  Terry doesn’t end with teaching you about hooks within your writing, she shows you how to make a pitch that will make an editor or agent salivate and craft a back cover blurb that will make readers very reluctant to put your book back on the shelf.  - Kat Duncan, WIP: Without a Lord

This has been a really great workshop.  You have helped me focus in on the things that will actually help me sell my work.  You gave me wonderful suggestions, succinct and to the point.  These are things I can apply to the immediate work-in-progress, and tips I will save for future projects.  The exercises were virtually painless, and it was fascinating to read through the comments everyone made.  They saw things I would never in a million years have caught.

You have also helped me to hone my critiquing ability and look at both my own work and the work of fellow authors in a more analytical way.  Many thanks,  Fran Abram

-I thought I understood hooks – they’re an idea, question, action or something that grabs the readers attention and they’re required at the beginning of the first chapter and then at the end of each chapter, right? Terry Spear’s Happy Hooker class reinforced that idea. And then added to it. With her well-thought out lessons, homework, and feedback. Terry taught me that there is so much more to being a great ‘Hooker’. Thanks Terry! -Debi Markee.

This month just flew by! Thank you so much for an awesome workshop! I learned so much and it will definitely help to strengthen my manuscript. The other workshop members have been great, too, and I've learned so much from all of them just by reading their exercises. ~~Naima

Terry, thanks - great class. ~~Lynn

My main reason for this message is to compliment you, once again, on a mass of exceptionally great information. The time and effort you've spent on the classes you teach is amazing. Even though I've only had time to copy and paste, the brief glimpses I've had tell me how all encompassing the instruction and inspiration is. ~~Peggy Ramsay

This class was fantastic.  For a newbie writer the information you get is unbelievable.  The tips, exercises, and comments to all the participants is extremely helpful and gets the creative juices flowing.  I would recommend this for anyone who is either new at writing or just needs a helpful push in their writing process.   Thanks again.  Katina Garling

Thank you Terry for all the great lessons, and thanks to everyone who
shared their work because I learned a lot from you all too. As I'm working through my second draft I'm constantly conscious of showing not telling and how to add description - the hardest thing for me. Mary Cooper

The Eclectic Writer Class Testimonials!

"Thanks Terry - I've enjoyed this class although I didn't participate as much as I would have liked because I was rather overextended this month.  Your lectures were invaluable.  Up to now I've been focusing on writing novels and eclectic to me meant different subgenres in romance.  Thanks for the reminder that even though my eventual goal  is publication in single title romance, I can build a career tapping other markets.  When I rediscovered writing my focus was narrow even though my interests have always been wide.  You've turned me around full circle."  ---Patricia

" I have taken two classes by Terry Spears. What I like about them is all the references she gives and especially her positive and creative suggestions to participants." ---Lou Kramer

Eclectic Writing Workshop:

Do you feel like you could write anything, but don’t know where to start, or even where to start looking?  This workshop will show you a number of different approaches to eclectic writing and help you define what ‘eclectic’ means to you.  During the workshop lessons and exercises I was able to look critically at areas in which I have interest or expertise, prioritize my back burner ideas, and put them into long and short term goals.  I leave the workshop with a working plan for the future to help me grow as a writer and I have already met one of my short term goals!    ---Kat Duncan
